The 'O'Briens of Glencush' Family
Reunion which took place August 2000 in The Glen
of Aherlow was a great success. Descendants
of Patrick and Bridget O'Brien of Glencushabinna,
Aherlow , Co Tipperary came from far and wide to
participate in the week long programme.
The opening event was a dinner/dance at the
Aherlow House Hotel which was attended by over
200 people including 70 from the UK and USA..
Highlight of the week was the open day at the old
family farmhouse at Glencushabinna hosted by Pat
and Joan O'Brien and attended by over 100 people.
The weather was kind and Fr Joe O'Brien
celebrated mass in the farmyard.
Lisvernane village hall was full for the family
history evening with displays of the O'Brien
family tree and old family photos and talks on
the history of Aherlow and the Denis O'Brien CDs.
The guided climb of Galtymore went off without a
hitch.. The party of 24 reached the summit and
were rewarded with fine views of the Glen of
Aherlow and beyond.
The fun event was the soccer match between the
Aherlow O'Briens and the Visitors which was won
by the home team after a penalty shoot out. The
match was followed by a barbecue at the
Caravansary Bar.
Other events included family walks and outings,
an evening of Irish music and dance at Tig Roy,
Galbally, a golf match and a trip to Bunratty
Folk Park.
On the last night Moroneys Bar, Lisvernane
was packed for the farewell party which went on
to the early hours.
